Growing Up with a Criminal Father
Vince had a pretty good childhood all things considered whilst growing up. Usually got whatever he asked for and never questioned where his parents money came from. Quite a happy child, all things considered, despite being perhaps a little spoiled. The happiness didn't last, however. His mother died when he was 11 years old and it broke him, especially not knowing what had happened to her. Even at his young age, Vincent grew suspicious about his father who seemed to know something about what had happened to his mother but refused to say anything. He also grew curious about what his father was doing. There was always stuff that didn't make sense to the kid. Mysterious men around his dad, usually carrying guns, the long hours his dad would spend working, the times where he'd be doing homework and see his father come home bleeding.It used to panic Vince, seeing his dad like that, but it became a common occurrence.It wasn't until his 13th birthday that Vincent would find out what his dad had been doing. A notorious criminal in the city, a well-known gang leader. Although his dad hadn't put it that way. He was given one choice, really. He either learned about what his dad did, learned how become a part of his 'extended family' and how to take over it one day, or he was not his son. So, innocent Vincent agreed. Next thing he knew was that he was getting tattooed, the gang symbol forcibly tattooed onto his back, just over his shoulder blade.17 years old, just before his 18th birthday, Vince had distanced himself from both his father and his gang. He didn't trust the man. Knew there was still something the man was hiding, both about his job and his mother's death. And his moral compass was practically screaming at him to confront his father about his illegal work. He didn't want to be apart of it anymore, didn't want to lie and didn't want to be like his dad. So he confronted him and it didn't go well.Ostracized. Kicked out of his family home a week before his 18th birthday. Left to fend for himself with only his limited-funded debit card and the clothes he had packed in a hurry. He'd managed to couch-surf between a few of his friend's houses but it didn't last.Fortunately, he had a bank account set up for a college tuition, set up by his mother before her death. Between the extra funds accumulated in that account via interest, as well as working a job, Vincent is now able to support himself, even if he has to live in cheap, run-down accommodation close by to the campus. At least he's away from his father.Vincent's problems didn't stop there.His family and his family's gang had caused lots of problems for people, even on campus. Students, teachers, other members of faculty and if not those people directly, then people they knew. Vincent was more or less disgraced on campus, people hating him for what his dad had done, for what his dad was still doing. Some would even try to pick fights, fights he often didn't win. It was utter hell.And even then, that was just the tip of the iceberg.
DEALING WITH VAMPIRISM
It turned out his father also worked as a vampire hunter alongside his main job as gang-leader/criminal. His mother's death had been at his father's own hand after his wife had been turned into a vampire to get at him. The man subsequently executed her.Vincent didn't know about this, however. Not until a man approached him at a bar about a year in to his college tuition. Claimed to know information on his father, his mother and had also seen how many of the students on campus treated him, told him Vince didn't deserve it and wanted to help. And Vince, tired of the treatment and just wanting some peace, accepted. He was told all about his father's side-business, despite not entirely believing it at first. Told about the vampires, the vampire hunters his father commanded, how a vampire had turned his mother and how his father had executed him.But when asked how this guy knew all of this...? It turned out the guy was the same vampire that turned his mother when he was 11. Vincent was naturally angry, perhaps tried to throw a punch or two but was ultimately subdued by the vampire and then he was turned himself. Turned into the very same creature his dad had executed his mother for being. Turned to continue the war against the vampire hunters. A war Vincent tries to avoid the best he can.But how long can he distract himself from his problems? How long can he outrun the fire?As a vampire, his powers include:
